Undersea is a typography focused book based on the text by Rachel Carson. This project required an experimental approach to design, using expressive typographic techniques to visually interpret tone of Carson’s writing.
The design of this book is centred around a mixed media approach combining letter press with digital typography. The letterpress typography was produced using a variety of materials and techniques to mimic the appearance of water droplets, subtly evoking the sensation of being underwater.
The aim was to communicate the themes of the book in a subtle, thoughtful way by using typography as the primary tool for expression.

A hand cut paper design featuring stylised waves was created and incorporated into the book as an additional design aspect.
